Aloqa for Android
Aloqa for the HTC Hero is a smart recommendation app that scans your local area and actively notifies you of interesting ongoing events and activities. Based on the set of categories you pick, the app will proactively inform you when parties, events, new restaurant openings and innumerable other activities take place. The “push” nature of Aloqa makes it relatively unique compared to other local directory apps. Unlike with the others, you can just leave your smartphone in your pocket and be notified when something happens or when you end up being near an interesting location.
Note that the number of notifications on your Hero can increase quickly as you begin to add categories. Some categories like the Starbucks one may trigger a notification every block (ha ha). However, since notifications specific to Aloqa are completely configurable, so you can have them remain unobtrusive if you prefer. Overall, this is an innovative addition to the local directory applications available on the Android market.
